Fines Options Program

If you cannot pay your fines, you may be considered for the Fines Options Program (FOP).  The FOP is a program in which you perform community service in lieu of paying fines and court costs.  It is run by the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office.

The community service work assignments are manual labor, and include such things as litter pick-up, landscaping, painting and building maintenance.

The work hours are credited to your fines and costs at the rate of $15 per hour.

Upon application and acceptance into the FOP, you would report to the Pre-Release Center on a Saturday at 7AM for orientation. You would then be scheduled for work any day(s) from Wednesday to Sunday to work 8-hour shifts.

Once all community service hours are performed, FOP administrators file documents showing successful completion. At that point, your account would be updated and credited as paid.

All community service hours must be completed or you would be revoked from the FOP.  You must notify the court if you choose to leave or quit the program before you have completed your required hours.

If you are revoked from the FOP and seek to re-enter, you must file a motion with the court and your re-entry must be approved by a judge. There is no guarantee that you would be authorized to return to the FOP.

To apply to the FOP, visit the clerk's office to fill out the appropriate paperwork.
